This research investigates the main factors for the possibility of converting Shahid Rajaee port to a free trade-industrial port. In the first stage of this research, the main factors influencing the formation of a free trade-industrial port have been recognized with the help of primary and secondary data in five distinctive groups. In the second stage, those main factors have been evaluated by the aid of questionnaires which had been distributed among 338 experts of Bandar Abbas city, Shahid Rajaee port and Shahid Bahonar port. 254 of the distributed questionnaires (75% of the total volume of the sample of the research) have been returned. As far as the statistical analyses are concerned to determine the research results, software packages such as SPSS and LISREL have been used. After investigating the various objectives of the ports of the world, the main possible reasons for the failure of free zones of Iran have been presented in the research. Furthermore, Various cases have been analyzed and studied. Finally, it has been found that Shahid Rajaee port is a place with very sufficient potential in order to be converted into a free trade-industrial port.

In the mean time the performance of transit could be increased through identifying the barriares and effective elemnts of transit cargo attracting. It is the the purpose of the present paper to identify and select the most effective indicies in transit industry at ports. To do this, all of the possible factors and bottlenecks in a transit process are uncovered through library research, interviews and Delfi technics. Then they are categorised based on the three models of fish bone model, type of indices as well as quantity and qualities of indecies. In order to find out wheather each associated factors has an affect on the transit process or not, the binominal test is applied. To do this, a five point likert scale quationer form consist of 27 items was distributed among 16 transit experts. Analysis is done through SPSS softwere. The result indicates that factors such as advertising in shipping line attracting, 24 hourse a day, seven days a week services and having cargo-handling geras with high capacity are observed as non effective factors in transit industry while economic/ prices stability and effective multy modal connectivity at ports (road, railway , aviation..) are considered as effective factors in transit industry. Finnaly, along with the investigation of transit issues at north port of Iran, some identified indices such as port time, vessel throughput and berth throughput are scrutnized at Anzali port as a case study.

This applied research has been conducted to evaluate the competitiveness of port services using exploratory factor analysis and importance- performance analysis methods. First, by literature review, 53 indicators of competitiveness of port services has been identified, then exploratory factor analysis was used to ensure the effectiveness of the identified indicators. Based on the obtained results from 53 identified indicators, in the factor analysis, only 27 of indicator have loadings on the eight factors of Logistics Cost, Connectivity, Port facility, Port Service and Availability, Safety and security, Efficiency and Productivity, Reliability, Hinterland condition. The results of the importance and performance analysis showed that among of eight factors, respectively efficiency and productivity factor has the highest and Hinterland condition has the lowest the difference between the performance average from importance average. And also the Position of each factor in the quarters of the importance and performance matrix indicates that other than the second factor (Connectivity) and fifth factor (Safety and Security) all other factors located in a quarter one.
