n influential factor in national development is holding scientific and specialized conferences. Conferences help identify existing problems and shortcomings, thus putting forth ways to solve them. They can be regarded as a means to enrich the spirit of research and exploration in the scientific and administrative body of a country, paving the way for group activities and collaborations. One of the main functions of universities and scientific institutions is holding conferences, usually with the cooperation of other organizations.

Khorramshahr University of Marine Science and Technology—the only university in southwestern Iran specialized in marine sciences—is home to the biannual international and national conference entitled Marine Sustainable Development, which examines the capacities of sustainable development in all marine fields. Following the successful execution of the 1^st International and 3^rd National Conference on Marine Sustainable Development in June 2021, we now have the 2^nd International and 4^th National Conferences of the series in the works for February 2024.
