In this study, two populations of Aphanius ginaonis (Holly, 1929) and Aphanius dispar (Ruppell, 1828) were examined to determine genetic diversity using PCR-RFLP technique. A total of 60 individual specimens were collected from Hormozgan and Bushehr internal waters, comprising two sampling sites; from Geno hot spring (30 individuals of A. ginaonis) and Mir Ahmad hot spring (30 individuals of A. dispar). The D-loop region of mitochondrial DNA (550 bp) was amplified using PCR followed by RFLP analysis based on 5 restriction endonucleas enzymes (AluI, DpnI, Eco47I, HindIII HinfI). In order to undertake data analysis, Arlequin 3.11 was applied. Results at population levels indicated that Geno individuals have more haplotype diversity than Mir Ahmad individuals (9 and 3 haplotypes respectively). However, further investigation using genetic techniques is required to clarify the molecular history and evolution of Aphanius species in this area. Results obtained from this research would be applicable to understand conservation genetics and management of this important fish species in Iran.

Taxonomic studies on the Anomura larvae of the Persian Gulf are relatively few. This research has been done on larval stage of Diogenes sp. (Anomura: Diogenidae)on coastal waters of Bahmanshir River. Anomura is a group of decapodcrustaceans, including hermit crabsthat are cosmopolitan and could be found from coastal waters to 5000 m in depth. The larval stages differ among families of Anomura. Anomura larvalsamples collected by plankton net (mesh size of 300 µm) from seven stations in February 2011 to October 2012. Planktonic larval were sampled from the Bahmanshir River in north of the Persian Gulf. The larval stages illustrated and described in detail for Diogenes sp. Finally Diogenes sp. were identified and their schematic figures were made using Camera Lucida. Maximum value of the average abundance of larvae (12.3±3.4 ind.m3) was recorded in May. Also positive relationship betweensalinity with frequency of Diogenes sp. were found significantly using spearman correlation coefficients (P< 0.05).

The importance of the use of medicinal plants against infectious and non-infectious diseases is completely obvious. The replacement of synthetic drugs due to their multiple properties in the prevention and treatment of many diseases, particularly in the aquaculture industry seems to be very important. This study was performed with the aim of assessing the acute toxicity (LC50-96) of thyme essential oil on rainbow trout. To study the effect of the essential oils, 80 premature rainbow trout with an average weight of 10±0.5 in 9-liter tanks were exposed to different concentrations of essential oils of thyme and daily losses based on OECD protocol were calculated during 96 hours. All the physical and chemical factors such as water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, nitrite, nitrate, ammonium levels, electrical conductivity and water hardness were measured in different treatments. The acute toxicity of the essential oil of thyme was calculated using Probit analysis and a concentration of 4.4 ppm was determined.

Barbus grypus is native fishes in Khuzestan province which its species with a wide distribution in the rivers that considered fisheries research in province. The fish have no stomach, space of intestine is narrow to store of food, for this reason anterior intestine dilated bowel and called intestinal bulb. Study of histological structure of intestinal bulb in fishes can help to nutrition and food needs so that we can extend of this species. In this study, 10 adults Barbus grypus of both sexes with average weigh 354.25 ± 60.52 g and average length 36.25 ±4.16 cm was chosen, and after easy drawing, samples were removed from intestinal bulb. The 0.5cm were fixed by Bouin´s fixative soluble and 5-6µ thickness sections were made by paraffin embedding method and were stained by H&E and PAS. The histomorphometrical studies were done using digital Dino-Lite lens and Dino-capture1 software. The results showed that the number of goblet cells in the intestine increased toward the end of the intestinal bulb. The intestinal epithelium height in the anterior part of the intestinal bulb was higher than other parts. Muscular thickness was different in different parts of the intestinal bulb, the middle part of intestinal bulb has thickest muscle between other parts of intestinal bulb. The results of this research indicate that there is some analog histological structure of the intestinal bulb in Barbus grypus to compare of other same family: from wall diameter and intestinal epithelium height and diameter of mucosa.

Some of valuable species of Persian Gulf, such as sea urchins, are accounted less scientific studies due to the lack of any position in the local food baskets. Therefore, this survey is investigated the biometrical parameters of sea urchin Echinometra mathaei for a period of seven months (March– September, 2014) in the intertidal zone of Lengeh Port (26˚32ʹ28 ̋N, 54˚52ʹ29 ̋̋ E). Random samples were collected monthly during spring tides and transferred alive to the laboratory and then the dissection and the separation of different parts of the body were started. Each part of the body length and weight was measured. By a mathematical method the volume of samples was calculated as an elliptical object. This study illustrated the largest and smallest sample were 0.07 and 103.77 grams, respectively. Results showed that the relationships between Total wet weight and Test Diameter (Total Wet Weight = 0.0053 Test Diameter2.3933), Total Wet Weight and Height (Total Wet Weight = 0.0122 Height2.5872) and Total Wet Weight and Volume (Total Wet Weight= 0.0071 Volume0.8706). The correlation coefficient between volume and total wet weight of samples was r=0.94 which shows the accuracy of Disk method. On the other hand, the HDR index was more in compared with the HWR index and it illustrates larger values of Test Diameter in compare with Height. Statical analyses prove that higher values of DWR in compared with HWR are reasonable and accurate in both sexes.

This study predicates the prone areas for developing Avicennia Marina forests along the coastal areas of Hormozgan province by studying the oceanography features influencing these forests and using logistic regression models. Tidal areas, flooding level, salinity of water and waves were considered as independent variables. The prediction of prone areas was based on using logistic regression model and the validity of the model was studied by ROC test and Pseudo-R2 . The results of this study indicates that; firstly the maximum wave height, the average maximum flooding level and the level of sanity of water are significantly associated with the presence of Mangrove and the high level of parameters of ROC and Pseudo-R2 confirm the validity of the model. Secondly the maximum wave height was introduced as the main marine parameter influencing the Mangrove communities. Finally the eastern part of the Persian Gulf coast, the west coast of Oman, and a few small spots in the easternmost parts of the coastal zone of Hormozgan province, were found as the most suitable areas for developing Mangrove forest.

Seasonal distribution of phytoplankton and factors affecting their presence in the Mazandaran coastal ecosystems were investigated in 2012. In this study, Distribution of the phylum and dominant species of phytoplankton and water quality parameters were evaluated along 4 transects (Amirabad, Babolsar, Noshahr and Ramsar) in the different layers of the water column at final depths of 5, 10, 20 and 50m. Variation of the dominant species and environmental parameters was analyzed using Principal Components Analysis (PCA). Average annual phytoplankton density was 185162558 cubic meters, the highest density in winter and lowest in spring was determined. Totally, 7 groups and 131 species of phytoplankton were identified, including Bacillariophyta (58 species), Cyanophyta (24), Pyrrophyta (22), Chlorophyta (17), Euglenophyta (8) and 1 species each of Haptophyta and Xanthophyta. The dominant species in the water body were Exuviaella cordata of the Pyrrophyta (61.25% of the species) in spring, Oscillatoria sp. of the Cyanophyta in summer and autumn (48.69 and 71.91%, respectively) and Pseudo-nitzschia seriata of the Bacillariophyta (66.12%) in winter. This study showed that Thermocline, riverine transport, Mnemiopsis leidyi and opportunistic phytoplanktonic species with high competitive ability (Cyanophyta and Pyrrophyta (were the most effective factors on spatio-temporal variations of phytoplankton. Temperature, silica and inorganic nitrogen play an important role in population dynamics are diatoms, while temperature, inorganic and organic phosphorus and inorganic nitrogen for Cyanophyta and Pyrrophyta are important.

Liver is one of the most important organs in vertebrates that have important roles in detoxifying. The main purpose of the present study was developing appropriate methodology for the primary cultivation of hepatic cells from orange-spotted Grouper, Epinephelus coioides. In present study, hepatocytes were isolated from five grouper individuals. Initially, the fish wiped with 70% ethanol. Liver were removed and cut into small pieces with scissors and hepatocytes were disconnected using different enzymatic digestion with collagenase (Type 1 and 4) and trypsin and additional nutrient materials in culturing mediums. Then, cells were cultured for 2 weeks in Lebowitz L-15 under 3 methods: 1. Using enzymatic digestion by trypsin, 2. Using enzymatic digestion by collagenase (type 1 and 4) and 3. Using nutrients and additives was cultured. Finally, effects of different incubation temperature (20, 25, 28, 30 and 32 degree of Celsius) and Bovine serum content (0, 10 and 20% and 20%+ITS) on cell growth were estimated. According to the results, digestion by collagenase type 4, resulted in more cell colonization and growth in comparison with other methods. In conclusion, the best culture method for primary hepatocyte from orange-spotted Grouper, Epinephelus coioides., was using ITS+20%FBS under 30 degree of Celsius incubation temprature.

Because of the morphological plasticity of corals, especially in Acropora, in response to the environmental variations, the taxonomical studies of this genus, has always been difficult. That was the main reason behind the introduction of ecomorphes as species in many instances. One of the misidentified cases is that of Acropora clathrata which has been reported from the north and northeastern of the Persian Gulf, several times. But the presence of this species in the Persian Gulf has been questioned for many years by researchers. To answer this question once and for all, 74 colonies of both forms of Acropora downingi, or the two supposed species, A. downingi and A. clathrata, from three islands Larak, Farur and Khark located along the east–west axis of the Persian Gulf, were sampled and studied from both morphological and molecular points of view. Results of morphological studies demonstrated that the observed variations in the studied characteristics, were indeed intraspecific variations and all of the specimens belonged to the same species, i.e. A. downingi. The results were also confirmed by molecular studies, signifying the absence of A. clathrata in, at least, the north and northeastern parts of the Persian Gulf, if not in the Persian Gulf in general. Therefore, it was the other form of A. downingi which has been misidentified as A. clathrata.

From total times spent for sampling, it was determined that at Lengeh harbor with 6 species, had the lowest diversity of green algae. The species diversity of brown algae at Michael location with 10 species each; had the highest, and Tahooneh location with 5 species; had the lowest species diversity. Species diversity of red algae at Michael location with 28 species; had the highest, and Sayeh Khosh location with 13 species; had the lowest diversity. Coverage data of macroalgae and Ecological Evaluation Index indicate a high level of eutrophication for the Sayeh khosh, and Bostaneh, They are classified as zones with a bad and poor ecological status. It has been proved that concentrations of biogenic elements and phytoplankton blooming are higher in these zones. The best values of the estimated metrics at Tahooneh and Michael could be explained with the good ecological conditions in that zone and the absence of pollution sources close to that transect. The values of abundance of macroalgae and Ecological Evaluation Index indicate a moderate ecological conditions for the Koohin, Lengeh and Chirooieh.

Brown algae of Padina sp (Adanson, 1763) are found globally across tropical coastal areas, inter-tidal and sub-tidal regions. The aim of this research was to identify morphological and molecular characteristics of padina species distributed across Lengeh Port in Persian Gulf using morphological examinations and rbcL chloroplast gene sequencing. For this purpose, morphological features were undertaken using valid identification keys. For molecular analysis, total genomic DNA was extracted by CTAB method with slight modifications. Amplification of fragments was carried out using rbcL primers. Analysis of genome sequences was undertaken using genetic softwares of Chromas, BioEdit and MEGA6 and phylogenetic trees were constructed by two models of Neighbor Joining (NJ) and Maximum Likelihood (ML). Results indicated that two identical species of padina (P. boergesenii and P. australis) in this research shared common cluster with 99% probability and showed high genetic similarities among related compared padina species submitted in NCBI Genbank.

In recent years concerns about long term effects of heavy metals as environment polluters has aroused. Nowadays considerable quantities of heavy metals have been released into the environment by human activities. Heavy metal can be a serious threat for the stability of ecosystems. In this study we examine the levels of zinc‚ copper‚ lead and cadmium in the feathers of twenty Great White Heron (Egretta alba) collected from Hara Biosphere during November and December in 2012. The results showed that the mean concentration of heavy metals in feathers of male significantly higher than female (p

In order to estimate the biomass of demersal in a part of Khouzestan and Boushehr waters (North- West Persian Gulf), a research Survey was carried out by using R/V Ferdows 1covering the depths 10-20, 20-30 and >30m. Study area was stratified into 2 strata(A, B) and 32 stations selected randomly and were sampled by Swept Area method. 44, 43, 54 and 36 species were identified in substrata A1 , B1 , B2 and B3, respectively. Catch Per Unit of Area and biomass in substrata A1 , B1 , B2 and B3 were 2396, 3102, 4942, 7904 kg/nm2 and 1198, 1292, 2471, 3952 kg, respectively. The maximum and minimum biomass belong to Upeneus sulphureus(1269kg), Nemipterus Japonicus(857kg) and Apogon sp. (2.23kg), Scorpion sp.(4.18kg) species, respectively. Total biomass in the area was estimated 9015 kg of which 6491 kg was non- commercial. A decrease of fishing effort should seriously be taken into consideration.

The main goal of this study was estimating discards of trawl nets in north western part of the Persian Gulf. Data were collected from fishing boats in fishing areas of Lifeh, Boseif, Khure-mussa and Bahrakan from October 2011 to September 2012 with collaboration of fishery office. Discard samples include 101 species from 61 families which are 39.5% of commercial catch and 60.4% of non-commercial catches. Rayfish and catfish have been observed in most fishing nets. The average size of bony fishes in discard samples was lower than 15 cm. Total weights of discards was estimated about 1109 tons per year. Total weight of commercial fishes with small size in discards was estimated 2736 tones. The rate and proportion of discards in total catch of trawl was estimated 0.5 and 1.03 respectively. Osteichthyes with 70 species and 50.7% of trawl catch has the highest percentage of discards in trawl nets. High rate of small fishes in commercially important species of discards is probably due to nursery role of Khuzestan coastal waters.
